A Community of Compassion
VIVA is focused on building a welcoming, inclusive, safe, and accepting community of people interested in veganism. No matter what your ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation, colour, economic status, or religious beliefs you are welcome to join us as we promote a non-speciest approach to living a compassionate lifestyle. If we want to build with these values, then we must practice them in how we communicate and behave with those we work, eat, play, and live with. That is why although we are a vegan community, we welcome non-vegans to join us in celebrating our culture and great food. By creating safe spaces for vegans to express themselves, share their stories and ideas, and empowering them to be community builders themselves we look to encourage a culture of creative participation. VIVA is for the community, but it is also of the community, as without our members and their valued ideas and energy we could not exist. Compassion is something we all desire in our lives, so let us all treat ourselves and others compassionately that we may be an example of this kindness wherever we go.
Our mission is to create a space for vegan community empowerment and the raising awareness and celebration of vegan culture from Victoria to Port Hardy and the Gulf Islands. We know each vegan community has its own culture, people, and sense of place that is important to them. That is why we will work with each community individually to meet their needs, and treat each as equals in importance of our support.
First Nations Territorial Recognition
VIVA wishes to recognize that we do our work and promote our vegan community on the unceded traditional territories of the Lkwungen, W̱SÁNEĆ and Coast Salish people.
