Earth Day Celebration!
Earth Walk For Peace and the Planet.
Vancouver Island Vegan Association joined thousands of Victorians for the Social Environment Alliance’s Earth Day: Earth Walk for Peace and the Planet.
We brought out our new One Earth, Go Vegan banner for all to see and brought last years banner too. We handed out information to walkers on how to get involved with VIVA as well.
Jordan Reichert of VIVA also brought the Animal Alliance Environment Voters Party of Canada banner out, as they are the only political party that actively promotes veganism for both the sake of the animals, our health, and protecting the environment.
Veganism is the single most important thing people can do to make a positive change for their own health, other animals lives, and to protect our environment. Animal agriculture contributes more to green house gas emissions and destruction of of our environment than any other industry in the world including big oil. Check out some of the research here.
Surprised? Don’t be, many environmental organizations won’t talk about animal agriculture or veganism because they are both very political issues and there are huge lobby groups that want to keep them quiet. To see what we mean take the time to watch Cowspiracy, and educate yourself on the impact consuming animal products has on our earth.
Want to learn more? Have questions? Need help making the change?
That is why VIVA is here! We build community, so that people have a safe place to go to ask these questions and get answers. We also want people to feel welcome where ever they are at on their ethical journey. Not vegan yet? That’s fine! We still want you to come out and join us for fun and to learn more. Vegetarian? Great! You’re on the right path, maybe we can help with areas that you feel you need support in making the full transition.
You can come out to one of our frequent events, or just send us an email. We have vegan mentors too, who are always happy to help with those first steps or difficult conversations.
Veganism isn’t about being perfect, it is about living compassionately in a way that makes us feel comfortable and that is in tune with our ethics. Each person has their own journey, so if we can help let us know.
