VIVA’s RASTA Rescue Sanctuary Roadtrip was an incredible journey!
We are grateful to have had the opportunity to visit RASTA Rescue Sanctuary in Chemainus, Vancouver Island’s only sanctuary for farm animals. While we spend a lot of our time advocating for animals that are abused and neglected in the animal use industries, many of us live urban lifestyles that don’t give us the opportunity to meet the animals that have seen and survived them.
It was a very special time meeting all of the incredible individuals and hearing their stories. Even more so, it was an honour to be able to experience their resilience and trust in people after all they have been through. It is hard to imagine what they have suffered and yet, they still met us with so much kindness, curiosity, and dignity. It is invigorating to know that even those who have seen the dark corridors of death can still hold their heads high in the light of a safe and respectful home such as RASTA.
Our deepest thanks goes out to Lucie Cerny who has dedicated her life to caring for these animals. She goes above and beyond, and her commitment to educating people about the truth of the animal use industries as well as the importance of a plant based lifestyle is admirable. We also want to thank all the volunteers who help make everything come together, who love the animals, and who dedicate their time to this selfless cause.
Below, you will find a selection of pictures from our trip to RASTA Rescue Sanctuary. We hope you enjoy seeing the animals and choose to support RASTA with your donation which are always needed for the care of the animals and the upkeep of the sanctuary. You can donate directly here.
Another new and fun way to help support RASTA is by downloading the ResQwalk App for Android or Apple products. Donations are made based on how far people who have selected RASTA have walked in miles, it’s that easy!
