VIVA

Victoria Veg is the home of the Vancouver Island Vegan Association (VIVA), a non-profit society dedicated to educating the public about veganism and building compassionate community across Vancouver Island. We are based out of Victoria, B.C.

Our motto is "Eat Plants. Love Animals." It is as simple as that.  Plants are the most healthful, ethical, nutritious and delicious source of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, and proteins. As animals, we advocate ending violence against our animal cousins who we share the Earth with. Whether it is for ethical, environmental, or health reasons you cannot go wrong not consuming animals.

100% vegan businesses across Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island has seen a tremendous boom of vegan businesses over the past several years. We work with many of these local businesses to promote their offerings and in turn many of these local businesses support the community through donations to fundraising opportunities.  We are proud to support the local community of vegan entrepreneurs who are making our world more compassionate through business.
We do our best to keep this list up to date, but if you know of a vegan business that is missing please let us know.

Support Your Local Sanctuaries

VIVA is proud to support our local sanctuaries with fundraising, volunteering, and organizational support.  They provide homes for animals rescued from terrible suffering in the animals agriculture industry and educate people about veganism.  They show people that there is a different way we can live with animals traditionally killed on farms. We can love them and build relationships with them, treating them with dignity and respect for the persons they are.

A Home For Hooves
A Home For Hooves has been operating in Duncan, B.C. since 2017 and was started by Michelle Singleton who decided to help take in more rescued farm animals from the community.  Originally starting with one pig, they now care for many animals and growing. Follow their work on social media, donate, and volunteer!

Local Animal Advocacy and Activism

For many vegans, activism is a central component of the their identity. Vegans often want to do more to help animals than not eat them, but actively resist the ways that they are exploited and oppressed in our community. While VIVA itself holds some activist events, there are many other organizations who also do outreach and help oppose animal use industries. Listed below are a few who we work with in the community.

Learn about veganism

Veganism for VIVA is all about ending the suffering and exploitation of animals, appreciating the environment, and living healthy, happy lives.  People may find or approach veganism from many different perspectives. We have created a general outline of some points to consider about veganism and what is wrong with animal use industries. This section will be continually updated with new information and resources.

Read our VIVA Compassionate Living Guide!

You can read it online or download it for easier viewing if you prefer. We also have physical copies if you want one!
